ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT & SUSTAINABLE CONSERVATION OF TWIN LAKES IN MOKOKCHUNG
The Scheme for conservation of Twin Lakes, namely Amok Lushi (under Chuchuyimpang village) and Yimdong Awatsung (under Mokokchung village), was sanctioned for ₹ 25.83 crore by the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of India under the National Lake Conservation Plan. The anticipated expenditure up to March 2020 is ₹ 2396.14 lakh and physical progress is 65%.
These two lakes, which are perhaps the only large natural water bodies near Mokokchung town, are highly polluted due to dumping of wastes and discharge of untreated liquid waste from the surrounding houses. The project objective is to conserve the lakes which can be sources of drinking water as well as for recreational activities such as angling and boating.
