An incentive scheme for encouraging villages to play an active role in making their villages Open Defecation Free (ODF) was introduced by the Govt. of India. Besides commendations, cash awards ranging from Rs.50,000/- to Rs.5,00,000/- depending on the population of the villages, are given to the village councils which have been  successful in making theirs  an  ODF and clean village.

 

Up to 2012-13, a total of 90 village councils have been awarded the prestigious National Award. During 2014-15, 41 villages have been recommended by the State for the NGP Award, short listing of villages to be finalized by the Government of India.
